Edmond High School Football History

In the beginning Edmond was just a lonely stop in Indian Territory with no trees, streets or buildings. This little stop would become one of the largest, fastest-growing cities in Oklahoma Territory.

The school was originally named Edmond High School because it was the only secondary school within the city limits. The first class graduated in 1922, and consisted of 24 students. As Edmond grew, the school changed location several times, moving to its current location on 15th Street in the mid-1960s.

In 1975, the name of the school was changed to Edmond Memorial High School to honor six alumni who were killed while serving in Vietnam. In 1994 the school split into three, now rival schools, including Edmond North High School and Edmond Santa Fe High School.

Having never won a state championship in a major sport (football, basketball or baseball), the Edmond Memorial football program finally brought home the first state championship in 1989 after making the title game twice before in 1988 and 1978. They beat Tulsa Washington 23-6 for the gold ball that year.
